Jewish Care fundraising stars receive Letters from PM
The Prime Minister sent praise to two fundraising residents at Jewish Care’s Rela Goldhill Lodge with a letter presented by MP for Hendon and Golders Green, Mike Freer.
On Thursday 23rd October, MP Mike Freer visited Jewish Care’s Rela Goldhill Lodge, a residential home for adults who have physical and sensory disabilities, to present the two two residents, Matthew Kayne and Simon Davis, with a letter for to congratulate them on their work.
Part of the letter to Simon, from the Prime Minister said: “I am so impressed by your commitment and hard work as a dedicated fundraiser for Jewish care. You should be tremendously proud of all you have achieved through your fundraising efforts.”
Simon Davis, 39, was born with athetoid Cerebral Palsy.
He is reliant on an electric wheelchair, speaks with the aid of a word synthesiser and works with the aid of a computer.
Not allowing this to be a barrier, he secured a place at Middlesex University to undertake a degree in Marketing, and graduated a First Class Honors Degree.
He now works as a volunteer in Jewish Care’s Fundraising and Marketing Department and runs a successful greeting card business, ‘Simon Says’ – the profits of which go directly into Jewish Care’s Rela Goldhill Lodge.
Simon’s latest fundraising initiative, a tandem skydive, raising over £6,000 for Jewish Care.
Upon receiving the award, Simon said “It is amazing, I feel honored to get a letter from the Prime Minister”
Matthew Kayne, 31, stepped out of his wheelchair in 2012 to complete a mile long walk from Rela Goldhill Lodge to Café Nero in Golders Green, raising thousands of pounds for the home.
Matthew has worked alongside Mike Freer MP to campaign for better pavements in the local area as well as improved access to local shops.
The duo were delighted when Starbucks in Golders Green ensured that their recent refurbishment provided step free access to enable Matthew to enter the shop in his electric wheelchair.
He plans to continue campaigning until access is improved across the board.
Upon receiving the award, Matthew said ““It means a lot to me to get this letter, I love helping people in the community”.
