JW3 to host launch of Islam Awareness Week

London’s new Jewish community centre JW3 is to host the launch of Islam Awareness Week.

The event, organised by Islamic Society of Britain, will be themed ‘’Charity begins at home’ and will showcase some of the social action projects taking place across the country.

ISB executive director Julie Siddiqui – who has worked closely with Mitzvah Day in recent years – said: “It seemed appropriate to use JW3 as a venue to launch Islam Awareness Week this year. The Jewish community have done a brilliant job at putting faith into real action with projects that really help others who need it.

“This year’s Islam Awareness Week will be showcasing some brilliant examples of Muslim-led social action working with people of all backgrounds. Whether that be foodbanks and feeding the homeless or working with women suffering violence and abuse and lots more.”

She added: “I think there is a lot more positive collaboration waiting to happen between Muslims and Jews in the UK, our faiths and interests are so very similar in so many ways. I hope that by using JW3 and working with organisations like Mitzvah Day we can develop the relationships necessary to make that a reality.”

Siddiqui said she “loves” the vision and attention to detail in JW3, adding: “It is a real aspiration for us in the Muslim community to work towards such a place.  I have always felt welcome at JW3.”

I hate to be a damp blanket, but I think that, before a Jewish institution starts to accommodate Muslim organizations and activities, Jews are entitled to receive concrete assurances as to how Muslims regard Jews. So far, the history is not too good, from the Prophet’s persecution and slaughter of the Jews of Medina to the centuries-old treatment of Jews in Muslim countries as ahl al-dhimma, subject to the payment of the jizya tax and to severe restrictions on their everyday and legal lives. Do modern British Muslims believe that Jews in a Muslim state must be treated as dhimmis? Doers this mean that they regard Jews as inferior people? Do the vile Qur’anic passages describing Jews as the sons of apes and pigs and more still apply, or will modern British Muslims deny their applicability or their truth. Because, if Muslims still think Jews are the greatest enemies of Islam and that they are sub-human, based on the inerrant verses of their holy book, then Jews should be polite and shake hands and ask them to leave. Otherwise, where is your pride? Where is common decency?

I do not think that this is an appropriate venue at all and whoever made the decision to host the Islam Awareness Week should have waited until there ‘is a lot more positive collaboration’. Perhaps a good start would be attending Holocaust Memorial Day services.

Absolute insanity! This is just the muslims using the Jews to make their supremacist, racist, militant political pagan cult look good. Do the Jews not know yet who their enemy is? This is a two faced PR job, that is all. Islam is the reason for most if not all, the humanitarian crises in the world right now. Instead of embracing this evil cult, it should be REJECTED.
