Oakwood booked their place in the last four as two goals from Sam Cantor put them on their way to victory.

Kyle Bentwood claimed their third goal. Manager Daniel Kristall told jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a great performance and a superb win against a fellow Premier Division side in the cup. We dominated from the first minute one and it’s credit to our back line that our goalkeeper didn’t have a save to make in the entire 90 minutes. We outpassed/out fought and outplayed them all over the park and it was only due to our lack of composure in the key areas of the pitch, that the game wasn’t sealed earlier than the 89^th minute.

A brace for Sam Cantor and a goal for Kyle Bentwood was the difference in a game where we also missed a penalty and several guilt edged opportunities. Cantor was unplayable and it was by far his best performance in an Oak’s shirt! Our speed, power and passing was outstanding at times.

“With key players missing and this being our first game of the year, it was an ideal start to 2016. We feel we have an excellent chance of winning this competition and look forward to the draw for the next round.

“Roll on the Morrison and a tasty trip to my former club Leeds!!”

Camden manager Will Castle told jewishnews.co.uk: “Unfortunately Oakwood were just stronger than us all over the pitch especially as we have such a thin squad at the moment which meant I was unable to freshen things up with substitutes. They were worthy winners and good luck to them for the rest of the cup.”

Oakwood’s cup dream is over as the Premier Division’s side’s superiority showed over the 90 minutes.

Shim Bensoor scored a hat-trick, with manager Ben Gilbey telling jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a great result and the boys are buzzing to be in the cup semi-final. A cup final and silverware is a real goal for us this year and we are doing our best to give ourselves a good shot at doing so.

“I am hoping to see better form from us this yea on a more consistent level in 2016 and the win is a good way to start!”

Bobby Abrams scored for The O’s, for whom manager Jason Stein told jewishnews.co.uk: “We lost a good natured and competitive match. Bobby scored to see us go into the break 2-1 down, but they scored a third late on and were deserved winners on the day.

“I’ve got no complaints even though we are obviously disappointed to lose. Today was always going to be hard with us missing seven key players, but I’m really pleased with the way the side we had out performed. At times during both halves we were more than a match for a good Team A side.

“The disappointment I do have comes in the way we conceded three goals all from set pieces. We spoke before the game about what a force they were on free-kicks and corners, but we didn’t take those discussions out on the pitch with us clearly.

“We didn’t quite find our rhythm  and gave the ball away too many times. But there are positives to be had in the way we defended and the way we battled as a unit.

“We’ve got one more crack at the cups with a big Morrison Trophy match next week. We want to get through and give ourselves another showcase occasion against a Prem side to try and put right what went wrong today.

“Good luck to Team A, they’re a good set of players and it shows the high standard of the Premier Division if they’re one of the weaker sides.

“I also thought the referee Martin Lavender was terrific today. Referees rarely get praise but he was top drawer.”

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A (PREM) 5 HARMEN (PREM) 1
Raiders emphatically booked their place in the semi-finals, thanks to this comprehensive win against ten-man Harmen.

David Dinkin scored twice, with Ricky Engleman, Nick Lewis and Jordan Marks also on target.

Manager Rob Richman told jewishnews.co.uk: “We are delighted to have got through this tricky tie against Harmen and progress to the semi finals of the Anekstein cup. We had a tough ten minute spell after conceding first but as soon as we managed to equalise through the excellent Engelman I felt confident we would go on and win the game. Obviously the sending off after half an hour made our task a lot easier but we made sure we were professional and clinical to secure a really pleasing win.

“There were some very good performances throughout but for me the tuning point of the game was a superb save by Doffman with the score 1-0 to Harmen. If Doffman doesn’t make the save then we could be looking at a very different result. We have made it to the final the last two consecutive years and we are determined to make it three in a row.

“We now await the draw for the semi final where I am sure we will be faced with Oakwood for the 3rd year in succession.”

Harmen took the lead through a James Gershfield penalty, and had a chance to go 2-0 up through Sam Castle, but he was denied by the Raiders goalkeeper.

Harmen joint-manager Oli Leslie told jewishews.co.uk: “The turning point in the game came five minutes before half-time when James Gershfield was sent off for supposedly lashing out at one of their defenders. Both teams disagreed with the decision and the referee missed the incident, though after consulting with his linesman, gave a decision that inevitably cost Harmen the match.

“We dominated the first half and in truth should have been a few goals to the good, but if you don’t take your chances against the champions then you will get punished and that is exactly what happened.

“Down to 10 men, they scored a quickfire double at the start of the second half with a stand out goal from David Dinkin. We gambled and went to three at the back immediately creating a few chances which again should have been finished off by Sade and Castle. We keep our heads held high and we move on from a game that without the sending off would have been very different.

“My team would like to wish Raiders good luck in the next round.”

Zack Neiman and Ben Myers scored twice, with Ashley Burns and Alex Hershman making it a sweet six. Player-manager Ricky Lawrence told jewishnews.co.uk: “We started like a house on fire and despite dipping for a bit in the middle of the half, we probably deserved to go into half-time four goals to the good. The second half was a different story and we let Blancos back into it. However, when we scored our fifth we knew that would kill the game off.”

Adam Hersh and Benjy Israel replied for the hosts.

Woodford let slip a two-goal half-time lead – and two points which could prove costly in their title bid as they were held to a point by the Raiders.

Harrison Midda and Ell Gold was on target for the visitors, for whom manager Daryl Kay told jewishnews.co.uk: “We hit the post twice, crossbar once and had two headers cleared off the line. It wasn’t our day today and we also had a perfectly good goal disallowed by their linesman for no reason, under the watchful eyes of David Woolf who admitted he couldn’t see anything wrong with it. Two points dropped.”

Josh Green and Lewis Blitz scored for the Raiders, with David Simnock forced into making a great save late earn to earn them a point.

Lions kept themselves just about in the title race – while at the same time denting Hendon’s – as they turned in this polished performance.

Joshua Bloom helped himself to four goals, with Ben Weinberger making it five.

Manager Sam Marchant told jewishnews.co.uk: “We again showed glimpses today of what we can do, only in spells. It’s understandable that after the Christmas break we won’t be at our best, but we did the job today and that’s all that’s important. We’ve closed the gap at the top and we have games in hand so we are in a strong situation.”

Yossi Goldberg netted Hendon’s consolation, with player-manager Chaim Gothold telling jewishnews.co.uk: “We lost to a good Lions team. We missed a great chance to make it 1-1 and then conceded two really sloppy goals straight after.

“Lions deserved the win, but the scoreline slightly flattered them. We will regroup for next week.”

Scrabble made it 12 wins from 12, to increase their lead at the top of the table to 13 points.

Zak McLeod scored twice, with Anthony Goodmaker also on target. Manager Ray Abrahams told jewishnews.co.uk: “This was a classic and Raiders were without doubt the toughest opponents we have faced this season. Some strong words were said at half-time among the group and myself and we made some tactical changes with half an hour to go which changed the game. We looked really strong in the last 15 minutes and I’m delighted that we’ve battled and dug out the win today. I’m so proud of my players who run and battle for 90 minutes in every game and never cave in even when the going gets tough.”

Oli Nathan claimed the Raiders’ consolation.
