FC TEAM A 2 WOODFORD WANDERERS 0
Team claimed a much-needed win in their bid to escape from the bottom sides as they put an end to Woodford’s goof form of late.

David Joseph Cohen scored both their goals, with manager Ben Gilbey telling jewishnews.co.uk: “The game wasn’t much of a contest as we completely controlled the entire game, our goalkeeper only made one actual save all game. The team have been getting better each week that goes by and this game was further evidence to that. We have been keeping hold of the ball and moving it around nicely creating chance after chance.

“We really should have won the game 7-0 in the end and on another day a lack of finishing can prove costly. I’m really pleased with the team, after a difficult start to the season we have sorted out the defensive issues and are defending well as a team, creating lots of chances and in all honesty we are an absolute pleasure to watch at the moment.

NORSTAR LONDON RAIDERS A 2 HENDON UNITED A 2
Raiders stay two points clear at the top of the table after they fought out a draw with the reigning champions.

Ben Joseph and Matt Stock scored for Rob Richman’s side, who told jewishnews.co.uk: “Today was a superb advert for the league we play in. It was a truly brilliant game of football played between two very good sides and though I’m upset at conceding so late the draw was the fair result.

“Hendon came out very strongly in the first half and with our passing slack they definitely were on top. We defended well but couldn’t really get anything going from an attacking sense. Hendon took the lead from a well delivered Rafi Kon free kick which unfortunately Ben Joseph could only glance past Doffman.

“In the second half we made an early reshuffle and for thirty minutes we gave Hendon the run around. Matt Stock scored a well deserved equaliser and then Ben Joseph, who had an outstanding second half, curled home a brilliant free kick to give us the lead. The game by this stage was very open as each side took it in turns to attack and it was clear the game wasn’t going to end 2-1. Unfortunately for us Yoav Kestenbaum, who was a threat all day, scored a great equaliser to give Hendon a share of the points.

“While we are disappointed that we didn’t win the game we all accept the draw was a fair result. The season promises to be very closely fought out again and it will be a matter of who is more consistent over the coming months that goes on to win the title.

“One final point, I think it only right to mention the performance of Hendon’s Avidan Last. Hendon’s goalkeeper Russ Corin went off after an hour with a back injury and Avidan stepped into the breach. In my view he won his side a point today, doing absolutely superbly to stop Stock scoring a third which I think would have been a goal too many for Hendon to come back from.”

Avidan Last and Yoav Kestenbaum replied for Hendon, with manager David Garbacz telling jewishnews.co.uk: “This was a magnificent advert for our league in what was a top quality match between undoubtedly the leagues two best teams.

“The match ebbed and flowed one way to the next and when all was said and done the final score was probably a fair result. We started superbly and had Raiders well and truly rattled with a brilliant first half performance and went into the break with a deserved lead. However, all credit to Norstar who were a different team after the break and within 20 minutes of the restart we found ourselves 2-1 down and our goalie Russell Corin had to go off with an injury. We had to regroup and stay hugely focused not to let them score again and it required enormous character to pull ourselves back into it which we duly did with a great Yoav Kestenbaum strike from outside the box in the 85th minute.

“Both teams had big chances to win it in a superbly entertaining second half but neither had the necessary composure and we shook hands on a tremendously fought out draw.

“It was vital we did not lose today – the loss of Russell was huge and Avidan Last showed great courage to take his place and keep a clean sheet for the last half hour. The match was played in marvellous spirit with big performances all around the pitch from both teams – this is what Sunday league football is all about – Norstar are a quality outfit and the additions of Lirron and Ben Joseph have made them much stronger than last season.

“This year’s title winners will be one of these two teams and we have to make sure we match them stride for stride and pip them again at the post as we did last time around.”

OAKWOOD A 3 HARMEN 3
Harmen spurned the chance to go top of the table, but had to battle to earn themselves a point in this six-goal encounter.

Brad Wine, Dave Woolman and Josh Rose scored for the O’s, with manager Ric Blank telling jewishnews.co.uk: “Overall I’m happy with the performance but can’t help but feel disappointed we didn’t win. It was there for the taking. We were 2-1 and 3-2 up, and had so many chances. We then conceded the softest penalty you will ever see to make it three all.

“It was a really big call by the referee but there you go. Some players know how to get them.

“It was a good game, played at real pace. We’re already looking forward to the return game.”

James Gershfield scored twice for Harmen, with Ollie Leslie also on target. Manager Joel Alterman told jewishnews.co.uk: “Credit to Oakwood who in my opinion gave us our toughest test of the season so far. They are well organised, big and physical and with their pace in attack I am sure that they will test all of top sides in our league.

“On the other hand we know that we are always going to score goals but the defensive performance in the first half was way below par and just not good enough for a team that has ambitions of winning a trophy this season. I believe in this very talented group of players and I am confident that the mistakes made this week will only kick us on to an improved performance next weekend away at Woodford.”

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE A 1 MACCABI LONDON LIONS BLUE 1
Fourth played fifth, so it was perhaps not too much of a surprise that the sides battled out for a point apiece.

Bradley Gayer scored from the penalty spot for the hosts, the Lions earned a point through an own goal.

Redbridge’s Danny Hakimi told jewishnews.co.uk: “We dominated possession over 90 minutes but couldn’t finish the game off which meant there was always a danger of not taking all three points – and unfortunately for us it was an 88th minute own goal that took the victory away from us.

“We are in a disappointing run of results so we need to pick ourselves up and turn it around in our next game.”

Brady got back to winning ways as two goals each from Reiss Mogilner and Charlie Kasler helped them to this emphatic win.

Sam Monjack and Matt Frohlich claimed their other two, with player-manager Josh Dagul telling jewishnews.co.uk: “Finally a big performance from the boys. We came out the blocks all guns blazing and got the goals our performance warranted. Today l got the reaction I was after following last weeks defeat.”

CAMDEN PARK 1 NORSTAR LONDON RAIDERS B 3
Norstar not only win this top-of-the-table clash, but in doing so went two points clear at the top of the table.

Dan Grossman, Ben Sheldon and Jake Gilbert scored for the new leaders, with manager Jonathan Adelman telling jewishnews.co.uk: “I’m absolutely delighted with what was a consummate team performance and our best display of the season to date. We had a specific game plan and executed it to perfection in a game I felt we bossed almost from start to finish.

“Camden have some very talented players and there’s no doubt they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season so this was a good test of our credentials and an important win.

“I gather the win puts us top but November is way too early to look at the table. Lots of teams have games in hand and we know it’s what the table looks like in April/May that counts.”

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B 7 BRIXTON OLD BOYS 2
Redbridge are now just four points off top spot – having played three games fewer than the two sides below them – thanks to this crushing win over Brixton.

Daniel Garfinkle helped himself to a hat-trick, Adam Goldman scored twice, with James Barkley and Sam Sollosi also on target.

Lee Cutler scored twice for Brixton, with manager Paul Shamplina telling jewishnews.co.uk: “We had several players out and it showed. Redbridge going forward caused us all sorts of problems, and we made some poor individual errors and didn’t react to the second ball.

“Sam Sollisi was their star man and we couldn’t deal with him. We were 3-0 down at half-time, then conceded a fourth within three minutes of the break and our heads were down.

“Good luck to Redbridge they played some good quick passing football. Hopefully next week we will have four of our regulars back against Brady.”

SPEC join Redbridge in joint-third as goals from Elliot Wallis, player-manager Ricky Lawrence and Marc Cohen saw them to the points.

Lawrence told jewishnews.co.uk: “After a fairly average first half we picked it up in the second half and got the win we probably deserved. Dan Pike kept us in the game with a couple of important saves but overall I feel we did enough to win the game.”

Julius Judah netted Bilbaum’s consolation.

AC Mill Hill kept up their impressive start to the season as they claimed their fifth win in seven games.

Jason Shoffman, Joel Lassman, Elliott Bloom, Darren Bloom and Rob Kleinman all scored for Daniel Beresford’s side, who told jewishnews.co.uk: “I think we played OK today, we’re still not quite ticking and playing our best.”

Nick Haringman and Marc Woolfe scored for the Raiders.

CATFORD & BROMLEY 6 OAKWOOD B 4
The Cats are up into fourth after they won this ten-goal thriller.

Zak McLeod and Jamie Sinai scored two each, with Andrew Charles and Sean Preston also on target.

Jacob Richler-Kleiman scored twice for the O’s, with Haydon Davidson and Daniel Selwyn netting their others.

Captain Adam Luria told jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a strange game. We went behind twice despite missing two absolute sitters (hit the bar from an open goal for one) but equalised immediately both times. We went ahead just before time and then extended our lead after the break. We should have put the game out of sight on more than one occasion but kept letting Oakwood back in the game, before we finally made it safe with ten to go.”

JEWDINESE 2 FC TEAM C 2
Team dropped two points which saw them relinquish joint-top spot as two goals from Matt Davis weren’t enough to see them beat Jewdinese.

Blake Buckman saw red late on for Team, with player-manager David Gordon telling jewishnews.co.uk: “Not our best performance but I’m pleased with how we responded to being two down. Not much came off for us on the day, but we showed great character to get a point that could be very valuable at the end of the season. We have a great opportunity to respond next weekend against the B team.

“The sending-off was the most disappointing aspect of the game but the referee had no choice and we don’t advocate that behaviour in our team.”

L’EQUIPE 0 FC TEAM B 5
Mitch Young’s side made it six wins from seven to go clear at the top of the table as Ben Binder’s double helped them to this win.

Richard Salmon, Jon Breger and Danny Moss also found the back of the net, with Young telling jewishnews.co.uk: “An extremely comfortable performance from my side, you can only beat what is put in front of you and played well for the majority of the game. There was a spell in the second half things got a bit scrappy but I was happy with the chances created, our professionalism and yet another clean sheet.”

HENDON UNITED B 3 BOCA JEWNIORS 1
Hendon won back-to-back wins for the first time this season as goals from Gab Saul, Gideon Caller and Benni Sluckis saw them overcome a battling Boca side and move up into fifth spot in the table.

Player-manager Adam Glekin told jewishnews.co.uk: “I’m really pleased, that was a well earned three points. I’m sure Gab John is feeling a little sick at the moment – it was a case of deja vu, his buddy Gab Saul has once again scored a lovely free-kick and we’ve nicked a win.

“It was a decent game, perhaps a draw would’ve been a fair result but we’re delighted with the win. Defensively we were excellent again, we’ve only conceded from set pieces the last two games and we were dangerous going forward – Gideon ‘Roberto Carlos’ Caller was excellent, and Benni Sluckis just keeps scoring. All three goals we scored were top notch in very different ways…long may it continue.”

Jack Goldsmith scored for Boca, with player-manager Gabriel John telling jewishnews.co.uk: “We played some great football today but yet again this season against Hendon, we lost the game in the last five minutes. Having been down 1-0, we fought back hard to 1-1 and looked like the team with momentum.  However, a lack of clinicalness in front of goal culminated with throwing resources forwards, we were left critically exposed in defence.”

Another hat-trick from Avi Markiewicz – his third in as many weeks – saw Rovers to the win which maintain their title push.

Rovers manager Jeremy Brown told jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a really hard fought victory today. Lions have certainly improved since the last game and they really gave us a fight today. Once we got our foot on the ball we started to dominate the game and again scored three fantastic goals. Congratulations to Avi for scoring his third consecutive hat-trick, I can’t remember when that was last achieved so I hope he gets the credit he deserves.

“I thought the whole team were outstanding especially our back four who never looked like conceding. Another great result but we’ll stay focused and look towards our next game.”

TEMPLE FORTUNE 2 KING CROWN 4
King Crown stay a point clear at the top of the table as two goals from Dominique Cheniart helped them defeat bottom-of-the-table Fortune.

Yoel Deal and Adam Nusenbaum strikes made sure of the points. Manager Jacob Kadoch told jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a very physical game, they had a clear game plan, being very physical and defending deep. The pitch was not good and it suited the class off the opposition. We made a mistake passing the ball to the striker and gifted them a goal. 

Matt Leader and Zack Rich scored for Fortune, for whom manager Jonathan Cohen told jewishnews.co.uk: “It was a highly competitive and fairly fought game on the whole but there were some unsavoury moments throughout and I wasn’t very happy with the conduct of some of the KC players or manager directed at our player running the line to be honest.  Most unfair.  We played with real spirit and determination in the first half and were well worth our 2-1 lead at half-time, but we sat off and didn’t impose ourselves in the second and to their credit KC did.  It helped their goalkeeper made two excellent saves but in the end they were worthy winners.
