Wingate & Dulwich play out six-goal thriller
Wingate & Finchley held Dulwich Hamlet to a thrilling draw as the sides played out a fascinating encounter between two evenly matched sides.

Both halves were played at extreme pace, though differed greatly with the score goalless at the break, as six goals followed in the second period, evenly split between the league’s third and fourth placed sides.
Karl Oliyide had Wingate’s first and best effort of the half, breaking away from a deep role after a spell of controlled Dulwich possession, but he narrowly missed the left post with a low drive from the edge of the box.
The home side were frequently foiled by Wingate’s offside trap, and did have the ball in the net on one such occasion, but created little despite threatening with heavy pressure. When they did manage to break through and create a clear opening, Jack Metcalfe denied Xavier Vidal with a strong low block, and Ethan Pinnock volleyed over the bar with the goal gaping.
After the half-time interval Dulwich hit the crossbar from a long-range free-kick by Ashley Carew, before Wingate scored in the 51st minute. Knight was fouled inside the box when bearing down on goal by right-back Jordan Hibbert, and although the penalty was given, Wingate were furious that a red card did not follow. The league’s joint top scorer kept his composure to again score from 12 yards.
Vidal lobbed Jack Metcalfe from a central position on the edge of the area just four minutes later to level the scores, the inventive effort catching the keeper out. The lead then switched to Dulwich on the hour mark when Ibrahim Mansaray showed incredible determination to win the ball and fired beyond Metcalfe with a powerful strike.
Like many times this season, Wingate grouped together in adversity and continued to probe Dulwich’s defence with patient and intricate build-up play.
With ten minutes remaining, Knight eventually levelled. The ball was spread out wide on the left to Oliyide who broke with pace. His low cross was missed by Laney but Knight mopped up to finish from close range.
There were still two goals to follow in this enthralling encounter. Dulwich regained the lead with six minutes remaining on the clock, after Vidal received the ball cutting in from the left wing, and lofting the ball into the far corner for his brace. However, another attack from the left brought Wingate level once again. Oliyide showed great composure to advance towards the box and win a free-kick. The ball was crossed in dangerously, and substitute Ola Sogbanmu found space and headed home for what proved to be the final act.
