Three killed and 16 wounded in Jerusalem terror attack

Three people were killed and 16 wounded on Thursday morning as terrorists drove by a bus stop at the entrance to Jerusalem and started shooting at civilians

The victims were identified as Rabbi Elimelech Wasserman, 73, Hana Ifergan, 67, and Livia Dickman, 24.

Two off-duty soldiers shot and killed the two terrorists in their car.

According to Jerusalem District Commander Doron Turgeman the two terrorists used a pistol and an M-16 rifle to shoot at the civilians. Both are residents of East Jerusalem.

Shin Bet identified the two terrorists as Murad, 38, and Ibrahim Namer, 30 residents of East Jerusalem, and members of Hamas.

Prime Minister Netanyahu issued a statement after the attack, praising the off-duty soldiers who killed the terrorists.

“Every Hamas member is a dead man walking – in Jerusalem, Gaza, Judea and Samaria (West Bank) – everywhere,” he said.

“The terrible attack in Jerusalem reminds us that our enemies are not only the Nazis in Gaza. We will pursue and destroy them, with God’s help, everywhere,” Finance Minister Betzalel Smotrich said.

US Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew condemned what the called the “abhorrent terrorist attack” in Jerusalem.

“My thoughts are with the families of the victims and I offer my sincere condolences to all those affected,” he said.

The attack comes as a fragile truce between Israel and Hamas was extended on Thursday morning.
