More than 200 politicians on both sides of the Atlantic are urging the European Union to designate the whole of Hezbollah as a terrorist organisation.

Under the auspices of Transatlantic Friends of Israel (TFI), parliamentarians urged the EU to “dismiss the false distinction” between Hezbollah’s political and military wings and proscribe all of it.

British signatories included Stephen Crabb MP and Lord Pickles from Conservative Friends of Israel and Steve McCabe MP from Labour Friends of Israel.

Brussels-based David Schwammenthal of the American Jewish Committee, who is TFI’s secretary-general, said: “We applaud the growing consensus among European lawmakers on this crucial issue.

He added: “Europe’s commitments to Israel’s security and to combating antisemitism ring hollow when it continues to allow a deeply antisemitic organisation dedicated to the destruction of the Jewish state to use Europe as an operational hub.”
