Two-thousand online users tuned into Limmud’s virtual summer festival at the weekend, which was held online amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Limmud Together UK Summer event, which was viewed 8,000 times, drew a total of 120 speakers including politicians, journalists, athletes, faith leaders and campaigners.

The former MP Luciana Berger was among those taking part, as were TV presenter Rachel Riley and the author Howard Jacobson.

Other guests included Likud MK Sharon Haskel, director Nicolas Hytner and the shadow education secretary Kate Green, who was joined in a session by Peter Mason, national secretary of the Labour Party’s Jewish affiliate.

The event “highlighted the dynamism and diversity of Jewish life in the UK”, according to its chair Phil Peters.

He said: “I’d like to thank all the presenters, moderators, team members and participants who came together to build such a successful Limmud event.

“Limmud is already looking forward to Limmud Festival 2020. Although Festival 2020 will look different to previous years, the organisation is determined to provide the same high level of Jewish education and community that participants are used to.”
