£300,000 raised for Edgware school in just 36 hours

More than £300,000 has been raised for an Edgware school in just 36 hours, which will go towards upgrading equipment for children with special educational needs.

Beit Shvidler Primary School held an ambitious 36-hour round of fundraising on Sunday and Monday, managing to raise an impressive £303,228.

The money from donors and community contributions pledged during the online event will go towards a number of projects, such as renewing the school playground.

Speaking at the end of the two-day initiative, headteacher Rabbi Jonny Spector said the community had “gone above and beyond to help this much-loved small school on its way to achieving its big dreams.”

“This incredible campaign succeeded beyond our expectations and will help us to realise our vision for the school and continue to help us nurture and support the children who are the centre of all we do,” he said.

The fundraising campaign is the school’s first remote fundraising drive, which depends heavily on contributions from parents.

School officials say they have also lost money because they cannot hire out their facilities during the pandemic.

Alongside renewing the playground and upgrading equipment for children with SEN, donations will help “address the shortfall in funding” caused by Covid.
