Peres to be honoured at gala London dinner

Shimon Peres

Shimon Peres’ lifelong contribution to Israel will be honoured at a gala tribute dinner in London later this year.

The former president and prime minister, whose record of service spans sixty years, will address the Zionist Federation annual dinner in person in front of an anticipated audience of 1,000 guests.

Peres received a Nobel Prize for the integral role he played in the Oslo Accords.

ZF Director Alan Aziz said: “The ZF Annual Dinner is one of the highlights of our year, and we could not be prouder that Shimon Peres will be the guest of honour in 2015.

“One of the most recognisable Israelis of all time, Peres’ life is inextricably connected with the history of the Jewish state. Much like Israel is both an ancient homeland and a modern, vibrant state, Peres is known not only for his longevity but for constantly championing progress and optimism.”

He added: “His presence at our event will be especially poignant for the ZF since our former President, Chaim Weizmann, was also the first President of Israel – a role which Shimon Peres made his own.”
