Action urged after Jewish activist ‘levelled an anti-Semitic trope’ at JLM

The Jewish Labour Movement (JLM) has demanded the party takes immediate action against a member who “levelled an anti-Semitic trope” at the group in the main hall at the party’s conference in Brighton.

Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, who chaired a fringe event where allegedly anti-Semitic remarks were made on Monday, was applauded on Tuesday for saying the JLM would have “a bit more credibility” if it “didn’t spend so much of its time running to the Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph with stories”.

At a fringe event later on Tuesday, JLM chair Jeremy Newmark said her remarks accusing Jews of colluding with the right-wing media amounted to anti-Semitism.

He said the JLM would be demanding immediate action from the conference arrangements committee when it meets at 3pm.

Mr Newmark said: “We’re absolutely determined this can’t be another issue that’s allowed to drag on for months and months and months.”

He went on: “If Labour is committed to an atmosphere of zero tolerance of anti-Semitism, we expect the conference arrangements committee, as the body charged with maintaining the atmosphere at this conference, to take action against that delegate who levelled an anti-Semitic trope against our vice chair (Mike Katz) on conference floor.”
