AJEX this week held a heartfelt thank you ‘l’chaim’ to mark the handover from outgoing national chair Dan Fox to newly-elected Jon Tyler, at The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Museum at the Tower of London.

The event was made especially meaningful by the presence of three previous national chairs, Mike Bluestone, Ron Shelley and Brian Bloom.

Honorary president Mike Bluestone opened the tributes, recognising Dan’s dedication and impactful four-year term. In turn, AJEX Treasurer Steve Pack thanked Mike for his incredible earlier service, noting that Covid restrictions meant a proper thank you had not previously been possible.

During his tenure, Dan oversaw a series of significant achievements, including leading annual parades at Whitehall, the launch of AJEX’s podcast, For Honour’s Sake, featuring veteran testimonies, and the highly successful medals campaign, which has helped more than 200 veterans and families reclaim lost or unknown service medals.

He also led major commemorative moments, marking 80 years since the end of WWII, 80 years since the liberation of Bergen-Belsen and 85 years since the Battle of Britain.

Paying tribute to Dan for his many contributions, AJEX chief executive Fiona Palmer praised his “passion, tireless commitment and countless hours of work as AJEX national chair. You have made a lasting mark on our organisation, our veterans and the wider community. This legacy will be carried forward in the years to come.”

Moving forward, Fox will continue to help drive forward key AJEX initiatives, including For Honour’s Sake, the medals campaign, and AJEX’s expanding programme of educational talks.

Alongside incoming national chair Jon Tyler, Josh Dennis has been appointed as deputy chair.
