AJEX launches NextGen to connect young Jews with veterans and tackle antisemitism
New initiative connects youth with veterans to preserve remembrance and challenge antisemitism
AJEX has launched a new programme aimed at bringing younger members of the Jewish community together with veterans, as it seeks to secure the future of remembrance and tackle antisemitism.
The initiative, AJEX NextGen, will engage cadets, university students and young professionals through events, discussions and shared experiences, while expanding its presence on campuses across the UK.
It will provide a space for younger Jews to explore identity, leadership and service, while encouraging them to honour the legacy of those who served and support veteran families.
AJEX said the programme comes as the number of veterans able to share first-hand experiences continues to decline, increasing the importance of passing on their stories.
Fiona Palmer, chief executive of AJEX, said: “From Remembrance to resilience, AJEX NextGen represents the next chapter for our charity.
“We are incredibly fortunate that we can still hear directly from veterans who have lived these experiences, but we know this will not be forever.
“That is why it is so important to empower the next generation to take on the baton of Remembrance to stand up to hate and to ensure these stories and values are never lost.”
To mark the launch, AJEX will host an inaugural online event on Thursday titled From North London to the Front Line: Identity Service and Standing up to Hate.
The discussion will feature a serving British Army lieutenant colonel, speaking in a private capacity, reflecting on more than 21 years of service and his journey from north London to life in uniform.
The event will explore identity, resilience and values, alongside the importance of confronting antisemitism and why standing up to hate matters.
AJEX said the event is open to all, regardless of military background, and is aimed at students, young professionals and anyone interested in service and identity.
The charity is also inviting those interested to join its young committee as part of the programme’s development.
