Alistair Burt

Alistair Burt has returned to his former role as minister for the Middle East.

The popular MP, who is a member of Conservative Friends of Israel, previously served in the role before a stint in the department for health.

Burt said: “I am honoured to be appointed as a Foreign Office Minister and look forward to working closely with our international partners to support peace, security and prosperity across the Middle East and North Africa.

“The UK has longstanding and important relationships across the region which I will work hard to maintain and strengthen even further.”

Burt served as Middle East minister for more than three years under David Cameron before being replaced by Tobias Ellwood.

Burt is seen as a long-time friend of Israel but is seen as an honest broker respected across the region.
