Amy Winehouse documentary to premiere at Cannes Film Festival

A young Amy Winehouse thought that she “wouldn’t be able to handle” the pressures of fame, a new trailer for a documentary about her life has revealed.

The teaser trailer for Amy, a documentary by BAFTA-winning director Asif Kapadia, has been released ahead of next month’s Cannes Film Festival, where it is showing out of competition.

The tragic Jewish singer, who died from alcohol poisoning in July 2011 aged just 27, is shown in archive footage reflecting on her rise to fame, saying: “I’m not a girl trying to be a star or trying to be anything other than a musician”.

Universal executive David Joseph said the documentary “captures the very heart of what she was about, which is an amazing person and a true musical genius.”

Amy, which features previously unseen footage and unreleased tracks, is in cinemas on July 3rd.
