Andrew Bridgen has been expelled from the Tory Party after comparing Covid vaccines to the Holocaust.

A Tory spokesperson said: “Mr Bridgen was expelled from the Conservative Party on 12th April following the recommendation of a disciplinary panel. He has 28 days from this date to appeal.”

Bridgen had been forced to sit as an independent after chief whip Simon Hart took action after he tweeted:”“As one consultant cardiologist said to me, this is the biggest crime against humanity since the Holocaust.”

The tweet also included a graph shared by a far-right conspiracy website.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak branded the North West Leicestershire MP’s remarks “utterly unacceptable”.

Following Bridgen’s suspension Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust said:”Inappropriate comparisons to the Holocaust have no place in politics. ..it is right clear action has been taken.”

Bridgen has previously sparked anger over comments made about an alleged “Jewish lobby” during a parliamentary debate.

He used the term in 2014 during a Palestine debate telling MPs “the political system of the world’s superpower and our great ally the United States is very susceptible to well-funded powerful lobbying groups and the power of the Jewish lobby in America.”
