Arsenal condemns ‘blatant and overt racist’ slurs

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger

Arsenal football club has condemned a “disgraceful” incident in which supporters chanted anti-Semitic abuse on a train after their Premier League match at Norwich.

Supporters contacted The Gooner fanzine, which in turn wrote to the club regarding the incident, which occurred on the 8pm train from Norwich to Liverpool Street Station on 29 November.

According to the letter, a group of men in their 50s were singing. “The generic songs about Tottenham descended into blatant and overt racism… They started singing ‘gas them all, burn in hell’”.

An Arsenal spokesman said: “We have heard about this disgraceful incident and are liaising with British Transport Police to identify and apprehend the individuals involved.”
