Badminton and table tennis are a hit with community’s schools

Immanuel College’s table tennis players

Maccabi GB held their latest series of school sports tournaments last week as six schools, bringing together 170 boys, took part in badminton and table tennis tournaments.

JFS hosted the event which was split into Year Groups with Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and seniors all competing separately. Each team played in a round robin, with a semi-final round and final to decide a winner.

In the Year 7 age category, King Solomon won the badminton group with a clean sweep of victories, winning 6 games out of 6, whilst the table tennis section was won by JFS who beat Immanuel College in a very exciting final.

In the Year 8 age group the badminton tournament was won by JCoSS, looking strong all the way to their victory. JFS claimed top spot in the table tennis.

A close Year 9 badminton group was won by JFS, who just managed to beat Hasmonean in the final. The table tennis was won by Yavneh College.

The Year 10 badminton was won by a strong Yavneh College team, whilst Hasmonean stood strong to brush away the rest of the competition in the table tennis tournament.

In the Year 11 age group JFS won a double with their badminton and table tennis pairs both taking home the winners medals.

Matt Travers, Maccabi GB Head of Sport, commented on the tournament, “This afternoon has been incredibly busy with 170 young people playing Maccabi GB sports. The quality of both the badminton and table tennis has been of a very high standard. Over the past few years the community has produced top class players in both sports and we very much hope some of the players here this afternoon will go on to represent Maccabi GB at all levels of the sport.”
