Ben Myers has been named the UK’s new deputy ambassador to Israel, saying he will build on the two countries’ “growing, important” partnership.

He was previously stationed in South America, serving as the British embassy’s Deputy Head of Mission in Mexico.

Prior to that he was British embassy’s Regional Director Economic Affairs in Central America, stationed in Panama City.

Prime Minister Sunak said in December that he will visit Israel “next year on what will be its 75th birthday and landmark year – after so many years of struggle – and also success.”

“I will fight very hard for the security of the Jewish state. But it has also never been more important. It is a friendship which makes all of our systems healthier,” Sunak said.
