Bench dedicated to Romanian ancestors by more than 40 descendants

Thirteen grandchildren of Solomon and Kate Nadler pay tribute to the couple's escaping of 'discrimination and hardship'

More than 40 members of a Jewish family descended from a couple who arrived in England from Romania more than 100 years ago have celebrated their life by dedicating a park bench in Finchley.

Solomon and Kate Nadler married in London in 1907, had seven children and lived in the East End of London, running menswear shops, before moving to leafy Golders Green in 1936 until their deaths.

Thirteen of their grandchildren decided to hold the dedication in their memory, “in appreciation for their escaping discrimination and hardship to come to London”.

More than 40 family members descended on Finchley from far and wide, with some travelling from the United States and Israel.
