Beram Kayal scored his first club goal of the season as Brighton came away from Newcastle United on Saturday with a 1-0 win.

Believing the Seagulls deserved the three points, the midfielder said: “It’s a massive three points and we deserved it.

“Sometimes you win games in a different way and the way we won was everyone put in more than 100 percent, put his body on the line. Everyone.”

Delighted to come away from St James’ Park with the win, which makes it two wins on the trot, he added: “A first away win this season and at this place, which we know is a tough place. We knew they would press us hard because they needed the points but we planned the game very well and at the end of the day, we deserved the three points.”

Also confirming it was definitely his strike, with him diverting José Izquierdo’s goal-bound shot past the home goalkeeper, he said: “I said to him, ‘Brother – it’s mine, you get the assist’. But we were joking about that.”

Elsewhere, Kayal’s compatriot Tomer Hemed, who is on loan at Championship side QPR from Brighton, scored his second goal of the season for The Hoops, scoring from the penalty spot in its 2-0 win at Ipswich Town.
