‘Beware of Jews’ sign in Stamford Hill reported to police
Shomrim said the offensive sign had 'caused a lot of concern' to the local Charedi community
Police are investigating after a sign appearing to warn about the presence of Jews, appeared in Stamford Hill.
Fixed to a lamppost near a synagogue on Clapton Common, the image depicted a man in Orthodox dress within a triangular sign with a red outline that traditionally denotes danger in British road signs.
Shomrim have reported the sign to Police and the local Council. Hackney MP Diane Abbott called it “disgusting” and “unacceptable”, whilst Tottenham MP David Lammy wrote: “Despicable, nasty behaviour that has absolutely no place in our community.”
Barry Bard, Supervisor at Stamford Hill Shomrim, said: “The sign has caused a lot of concern amongst local Jewish residents, especially as it is in such close proximity to a Synagogue.”
