Biden: Israel is losing world’s support with ministers like Itamar Ben-Gvir

US President Joe Biden has warned that Israel will lose the world’s support with its “incredibly conservative” government. 

“Israel has had the overwhelming support of the vast majority of nations. If it keeps this up with this incredibly conservative government they have, and [National Security Minister Itamar] Ben-Gvir and others… they’re going to lose support from around the world, and that is not in Israel’s interest,” Biden told Seth Meyers on NBC.

The president also reiterated that “too many innocent people are being killed” in Gaza, stressing the need for a temporary ceasefire that can change the “dynamics” and pave the way for a two-state solution.

Biden is widely seen as one of the most Israel-friendly presidents in American history. He told Meyers: “You don’t need to be a Jew to be a Zionist. I am a Zionist.” If not for Israel, Biden added, “no Jew in the world would be safe.”

Biden has previously lashed out at Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government, saying that it includes some of “the most extreme” ministers  he has ever witnessed in his political career.

For their part, Israeli far-right ministers have attacked Biden over American pressure to increase aid to Gaza and slow down the IDF’s military operations.

“Instead of giving us his full backing, Biden is busy with giving humanitarian aid and fuel, which goes to Hamas. If Trump was in power, the US conduct would be completely different,” Ben-Gvir told the Wall Street Journal earlier this month.
