After Potters Bar had enjoyed the opening spell, David Knight opened the scoring against the run of play in the seventh minute. Karl Olayidi spread the ball wide to Rob Laney on the right, and he drilled the ball across to Knight who had timed his run well to earn a simple tap-in.

Wingate were the incisive side and created changes at will. Knight had an effort blocked by a defender on the line, and Tommy Tejan-Sie had a goal disallowed for an offside earlier in the move.

Tejan-Sie went close again, curling an outswinging shot inches wide of the left post from 20 yards, after being set up by a low pass from a patient Adam Bolle inside the area.

The second goal followed in the 30th minute. Laney burst clear of his marker through the centre, and did well to avoid being hauled down, eventually drilling his shot through the stranded keeper.

Tejan-Sie was creative again as he assisted the side’s third goal moments before the break. A flick-on set Knight free and he volleyed powerfully beyond the keeper into the bottom left corner.

There was time for another chance before the break as Ronayne Marsh-Brown crossed from the right wing, but Bolle volleyed into the side netting at the near post.

Potters Bar were the better side after the break, and after finding the side netting, Josh Hutchison scored in the 65th minute with a firm drive across Calum Kitscha into the bottom left corner. Debutant goalkeeper Kitscha had to be alert to tip a similar shot wide with his right arm after another drive across goal.

However, once again a number of substitutions slowed the flow of the game down with attacking cohesion replaced by defensive solidity, and the 3-1 result was assured.
