Board brands Corbyn a ‘megaphone protester’
Jewish leaders hit out at Labour leader after the Board lodged its submission to Labour National Policy Forum consultation
The Board of Deputies this week branded Jeremy Corbyn a “megaphone protester” and issued a set of demands on the Labour Party.
The highly personal remarks against the Labour leader from new senior vice-president Sheila Gewolb marked a new low in relations, after the Board lodged its submission to the Labour Party’s National Policy Forum consultation.
The Board “urged” Labour to adopt the full International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of anti-Semitism, including its working examples, some of which have been criticised by the Home Affairs Select Committee for potentially limiting legitimate free speech on Israel.
It also demanded the scrapping of the ‘two-child policy’ on child benefits, and the full proscription of Hezbollah, including its political wing, which is not currently proscribed.
Gewolb called Corbyn “one-sided” on the Middle East conflict, after he said a Labour government would quickly recognise the state of Palestine.
She said: “Mr Corbyn’s call for a two-state solution is consistent with our policy… but his one-sided pronouncements risk undermining his potential to be future peacemaker.”
