Bolder misses out on Israel’s second bronze medal

Dutch-born 28-year-old lost opening Repechage fight on Wednesday evening.

Linda Bolder suffered a disappointing loss on Wednesday evening

Linda Bolder’s hope of emulating Yarden Gerbi’s bronze-medal win were ended by Maria Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.

Bolder, who made aliyah with her Dutch Jewish husband, and started to represent Israel in 2015, reached the quarter-finals of the U70kg judo event on Wednesday afternoon, though missed out on the semi-finals when beaten by GB’s Sally Conway.

She did though still have a chance of winning bronze in the Repechage contest, where she was two wins away from claiming bronze, but fell at the first hurdle when a Shido penalty was enough ti send her to defeat against Spain’s Maria Bernabeu.

Speaking afterwards, she said: “I am very disappointed, I gave everything I had. Would love to continue to represent my.”
