Borehamwood Masorti (SHEMA) new community Rabbi Zachary Bernstein-Rothberg

SHEMA, the Masorti Community in Borehamwood, has appointed a new community Rabbi, with Zachary Bernstein-Rothberg due to take up the post in August after his graduation from the Jewish Theological Seminar.

Bernstein-Rothberg grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and attended university in Washington, DC, where he studied political science and religious studies. At JTS, he pursued a Masters degree in Bible Studies, and has interned in four congregations in the United States.

Joined by his husband Zachary Carruthers-Rothberg once he completes his own rabbinic training in the coming year, Berstein-Rothberg said: “I am so excited to be coming to work with this community. Everyone has been so kind and welcoming, the energy and dedication of the people is spectacular, and I am honoured and excited to be a part of SHEMA’s next chapter.”

SHEMA is the result of a merger between the Masorti communities in Edgware and Borehamwood.
