Brick Lane’s iconic Beigel Bake has urged customers to place orders online as the country enters into a three-week lockdown to halt the pandemic.

The family-owned takeaway food shop known for its salt beef and generously filled bagels launched its own food delivery app on Apple’s App Store earlier this year.

The 24-hour bakery in east London will remain open until further notice, but with its operating hours changed to 7am to 10pm at a yet undisclosed date in the coming days.

“We ask during these difficult times that you stay safe, take care of your families and let us come to you with our new delivery app,” said the bakery’s director Daniel Cohen on behalf of the Cohen and Minzily family.

“Please go download this on the App Store and we look forward to providing your tasty treats and essentials,” he added.

The appeal comes after the prime minister order the public to only leave their homes for “very limited purposes” as he placed the country on a lockdown in a televised address from Downing Street on Monday evening.

Boris Johnson banned public gatherings of more than two people not living together and ordered closed all non-essential shops, such as those selling electronics and clothing.
