Brighton chairman Tony Bloom tells of ‘huge uncertainty’ amid virus

Brighton and Hove Albion’s chairman Tony Bloom admitted leading the football club through the coronavirus pandemic has been the most difficult challenge encountered during his career.

The sports bettor and property investor, 50, has been the chairman of the club, which entered the Premier League after the 2016/2017 season, since 2009.

Brighton and Hove Albion’ has not played a game since last month when it faced Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.

“This is a complete outlier, very very difficult if not impossible to plan for. We don’t know what the extent of the losses will be. It depends on when football comes back, but it’s very very difficult for us to plan and deal with, but we’re doing everything we can,” Bloom told reporters during a press conference call last Thursday.

“[Covid-19] is all the time, and it’s hugely difficult in many areas of business and life. And obviously … the football club is there to play games, and there’s no games being played,” he said.

“There’s a huge amount of uncertainty. There’s a huge amount of financial uncertainty and it’s really difficult for everyone and that’s just from a business, financial and football point of view,” he added.
