Bristol J-Soc to host local politicians for interfaith Friday Night Dinner

On Friday 31st January, Bristol Jewish Society will be playing host to a very special Shabbat meal and winning hearts and minds through the tried-and-tested combination of soup and matzo balls.

Three esteemed guests will be joining them to enjoy chicken soup with all the trimmings and a dose of Jewish culture and tradition during an inclusive, interfaith Friday Night Dinner.

Sitting down at the Shabbat table alongside the developing J-Soc’s members will be the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Bristol Faruk Choudhury, a practising Muslim and keen fan of cricket, football and experiencing “new cultures, food and languages”, alongside Deputy Lord Mayor Peter Main and Lib Dem MP for Bristol West Stephen Williams.

J-Soc President Noah Levy hopes this special Friday Night Dinner will help to educate the community of Bristol by giving the three local politicians the chance to taste traditional Jewish cuisine (the J-Soc has promised to ensure that the food will be Halal, as requested), as well as the chance to experience the Hebrew language and other various aspects of Jewish culture and practice along the way.

‘With Bristol J-Soc expanding, likewise is [their] interaction with the Bristol community,’ says Noah, emphasising the important bonds being created through the J-Soc’s ‘charity work, educational opportunities and seasonal festive events’ that have seen Bristol’s Jewish Society membership skyrocket in the past few years.
