British Embassy staff in Israel helped pack five tons worth of rescued citrus fruits at the national food bank.

They volunteered at the logistics centre of Leket in Ra’anana, Israel’s premier food rescue organisation.

The five tons of fruits included lemons, tangerines, pomelos and grapefruits,.

Leket rescues perishable food and fruit from farms, hotels, military bases and catering halls.

It is redistributed through almost 190 non-profit partners to over 140,000 Israelis every week.

This helps to alleviate poverty, which Leket claim exists among at nearly a quarter of the population .
