British-Israeli hostage murdered while in Hamas captivity, new intelligence suggests
New Israeli intelligence suggests was killed by the terror group after being taken captive with his mother, Channah Peri, 79, on October 7 from their home in Nirim
British-Israeli hostage Nadav Popplewell, 51, was murdered while in Hamas captivity, it has been announced.
The announcement is based on new intelligence received by Israel and his body remains in Gaza, Kibbutz Nirim said.
“It is with deep sadness that we have now been informed of the death of our friend Nadav Popplewell in Hamas captivity in Gaza,” the southern Israeli community said in a message shared on social media.
“We mourn and grieve the death of Nadav and share in the difficult mourning of Chana, Ayelet and the family,” the statement added.
Last month the Foreign Office said it was investigating a claim by the terror group Hamas that a British-Israeli hostage has died in Gaza.
But Lord Cameron said on Monday:”Greatly saddened to hear about the death of Nadav Popplewell who had been held in captivity by Hamas since 7 October.
“My thoughts are with his loved ones at this terrible time for them.
“With a new deal on the table, we reiterate our demand for Hamas to send all hostages home.”
Popplewell was taken captive with his mother, Channah Peri, 79, on October 7 from their home in Nirim by Hamas terrorists who stormed the community.
Peri was released on November 24 as part of a temporary ceasefire deal.
On May 12, Adam Wagner, one of the lawyers acting for the families of hostages in the UK, issued at statement saying:”We are devastated to hear the news (not yet confirmed by the British government) that Nadav Popplewell, a British hostage of Hamas whose family we have been acting for, has died. ”
Channah and Nadav were together throughout her captivity in a tunnel under Gaza.
Popplewell was seen in a video issued by Hamas weeks ago in a 10-second clip.
