Adopt a soldier for £525 - three Jewish men are appealing for funds to equip their soldier friends in Israel with medical and protective equipment
Three members of the Jewish community are appealing for funds to provide vital pieces of protective equipment to Israeli soldiers.
All three wish to remain anonymous, but two are London based whilst the third is an ‘oleh chadash’ having made aliyah in 2021. To date, the trio have raised around £40k.
All the soldiers they are supporting, many of them lone soldiers, are personally known to them and come from units including the Medical Corps, Paratrooper Brigade, Kfir Brigade, Givati Brigade and the Oz Brigade (Commandos).
Speaking to Jewish News, a spokesperson for the group said: “We are looking to equip soldiers who we know and their colleagues from the above units with full sets of decent protective gear. £525 will allow us to provide:
2 x Tactical shirts
Combat boots
2 sets of high quality socks
Cold weather waterproof jackets
Waterproof jackets
Fleeces
Headlamps
Medical pouches
CAT tourniquets
Bandages
“To provide one soldier with the above would cost £525. There are of course more items we would love to send, such as backpacks and other tactical gear but this is what we are being asked to provide as a priority.
“We have the network to get these things to Israel and the units who are asking for them.

The ‘oleh chadash‘, (new immigrant) who made aliyah in 2021 and now lives in Netanya, tells Jewish News:
“I was tired of sitting there, screaming at CNN, grinding my teeth, and wishing I was able to contribute and do something.
“Especially as an oleh this hit very hard. Israel is small and tightly knit so everyone knows someone who’s either in the horror stories or one step removed from it. Plus you’ve run to the shelter plenty of times before, so you’re feeling everyone’s panic, fear and heartache. And now I’m stuck here in London so I feel even more useless.”
“When X from London called me to explain that he had already helped a search and rescue unit get equipment and wanted to do more, I leapt at the opportunity to help.”
