Brussels attack: ‘I was praying at the synagogue. We felt the explosion.’

An eyewitness of this morning’s Brussels Airport suicide bombing, which has killed at least 13 and injured several people, has told how he ‘felt the explosion’ while praying in synagogue.

Two explosions are reported to have hit the American Airlines check-in desk at around 8am (7am GMT).

Around 90 minutes later, a second suspected terror attack hit Maelbeek Metro station, close to the EU headquarters in the city centre.

Writing on Twitter this morning, United Hatzalah wrote that their volunteer EMT Yaakov Yeret said: “At the time I was praying at the synagogue… we felt the explosion.”

Photographs from the scene show the arrival halls covered in fallen roof tiles and dust, with walking wounded emerging from the smoke-fulled airport. Others lie injured on the floor.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry has reportedly confirmed at least one Israeli was injured in the blast.

It is understood that of the two Jews wounded, one is Israeli and one is an Antwerpen Jew.

Both suspected terror attacks come just a day after the Belgium Interior Minister warned of possible revenge attacks following the arrest of Paris massacre suspect Salah Abdeslam in Brussels last week.

All flights to and from Belgium have been cancelled. Bus, tram and metro services have also been shut down.
