Bucket of urine thrown at Jewish school in FOURTH antisemitic attack in Golders Green
Same suspect linked to synagogue desecrations now believed to have targeted school; police and Shomrim investigating
A Jewish school in Golders Green was targeted with a bucket of urine in the early hours of this morning, in what community security volunteers believe is the fourth antisemitic attack by the same suspect in just over a week.
The incident follows three previous attacks on 31 August, 3 September and 7 September, when faeces was smeared on synagogues and walkways leading to places of worship in the area.
CCTV footage reviewed by Shomrim North West London indicates the same individual is responsible for the latest incident. Police officers were seen outside the school this morning, and staff moved quickly to reassure parents that children were safe and extra precautions had been taken.
A Shomrim spokesperson said: “This is the fourth deliberate and targeted antisemitic act by the same suspect in just over a week. It is appalling that our community’s synagogues, homes, and now a school have been desecrated in a similar way. We are working tirelessly with police to ensure the individual is caught and held to account, and we are supporting all those affected.”
Sarah Sackman, Labour MP for Finchley and Golders Green, condemned the incidents:
“There is no place for antisemitism and hate in our community. I will not tolerate it. The vandalism of a local primary school this morning is sickening and I have reached out to offer my support. The wider community in Golders Green can be assured that I am working closely with the Police, Shomrim and Barnet Council. We are doing everything possible to find the individual responsible and bring him to justice.”
The Metropolitan Police confirmed to Jewish News that it is investigating the series of incidents as religiously motivated criminal damage.
Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis, from the north-west neighbourhood team, said:
“This is a revolting and appalling act and we are urging the public to help us locate those responsible as soon as possible.
We are very aware of how distressing this must have been for those who use the synagogues. We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour.
We are actively engaging with the local community and remain in discussion with community partners and key stakeholders to provide reassurance and support.
Detectives from my Community Safety Unit are working at pace to identify the suspect.”
The school attack is believed to have taken place at around 2am on Monday, 8 September. No arrests have yet been made.
Shomrim urged anyone with information or who may have been a victim of a similar incident to contact its 24-hour control room on 0300 999 1234.
