Bushey residents urged to petition against eruv plans
People who live in Bushey are being asked to sign a petition to scrap plans for an eruv, or Jewish religious boundary, after organisers said it would cause “social engineering in favour of a religious minority”.
Over 300 signatures have been collected so far by the Bushey Residents Group (BRG), which has asked Hertfordshire County Council not to grant the licence.
In its e-petition, BRG asks resident to sign to “preserve the rights of those of all faiths and none against social engineering in favour of a minority religion”.
Organisers also ask residents to add their signature to “prevent governmental discrimination in favour of a minority religion against the wishes of the majority community”.
Stephen Roston, chairman of Bushey United Synagogue, said: “There are people who are scaremongering… we are not prepared to enter a media war.”
