Cameron announces travel ban on settlers responsible for violence against Palestinians

Foreign Secretary David Cameron has announced the UK is banning those responsible for settler violence against Palestinians from entering Britain.

“Extremist settlers, by targeting and killing Palestinian civilians, are undermining security and stability for both Israelis and Palestinians,” Cameron said on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Israel must take stronger action to stop settler violence and hold the perpetrators accountable.

“We are banning those responsible for settler violence from entering the UK to make sure our country cannot be a home for people who commit these intimidating acts.”

Foreign Office minister Andrew Mitchell had told MPs earlier this week that the UK was “considering” the move, which had been announced the previous week by the United States.

He was asked by Labour about the possibility of introducing travel bans for those accused of settler violence, following shadow foreign secretary David Lammy’s visit to the Middle East.

Mitchell said:”“The targeted killings of civilians are completely abhorrent and we are seeking that they should not just be arrested but also prosecuted and punished.

“The Foreign Secretary (Lord Cameron) discussed this with his US counterpart last week and I hope it may be possible to say something about that shortly.”
