Camila Giorgi claims second career title

Camila Giorgi won her second WTA title on Sunday afternoon, comprehensively beating Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-1 in the final of the Linz Open.

Set to claim a highest-ever world ranking, with the win seeing her break into the top 30, the first set was won with a single break of serve, the Italian breaking at 4-3, before holding to serve out to take the first set 6-3.

The second set though would prove to be a much more comprehensive affair as the 26-year-old won her fourth consecutive game at the start of the second set to claim the early break, before holding to go 2-0 up. Another break of serve saw her take command of the set – and match – before another hold saw her go 4-0 up. Alexandra held off further break points to record her first game of the set, however, that was only putting off the inevitable as Giorgi served out her next service game to clinch the second set 6-1.

Speaking after her win which earned her £30,000 and 280 raking points she said: “It was a great match today and I am really happened to get this trophy, which goes to my dad and my mum.”

Her sixth final, her only previous WTA title was three years ago when she won the Rosmalen Championships in the Netherlands.
