Candidate suspended from Labour after Rothschilds ‘responsible for war’ claim

A council candidate has been suspended from Labour after it was revealed she shared conspiracy theories about the Rothschild family.

Alexandrina Braithwaite, who is standing for a seat in Brighton and Hove next month, was suspended after The Telegraph passed on a number of social media posts to the party.

The newspaper reported that Braithwaite claimed the Rothschilds were“responsible for almost every war on Earth”, “Satanist”, and linked to “the Illuminati”.

Braithwaite also reportedly shared an article in 2016, claiming police officers in Germany had marched against a “Rothschild European Central Bank”.

The council candidate apologised in a statement to The Telegraph, adding that she was unaware of antisemitic conspiracies at the time and that she was “committed fighting antisemitism.”

A Labour spokesman said: “The Labour Party takes all complaints of antisemitism extremely seriously and we are committed to challenging and campaigning against it in all its forms.

“All complaints about antisemitism are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken. We can’t comment on individual cases.

“Individuals who are suspended from the party can’t stand as party candidates. Due to electoral laws, those who are suspended after the deadline can’t be removed from the register, but they are not party candidates.”
