CCTV captures moment Jewish man is attacked in a North London block of flats

Police said they were investigating the images shared by the Shomrim security service on Friday afternoon

This is the shocking moment a Jewish man was attacked in a North London block of flats, seconds after his phone appeared to be snatched away.

CCTV cameras were filming as the suspect reached forward to take the device from his victim.

A struggle then ensues, with the two men exchanging blows in the building’s communal area and on the doorstep.

It happened at an address on St Ann’s Road in Haringey, North London, according to the Shomrim security service, which first shared the images.

Police said there was nothing at this stage to suggest the attack was racially or religiously motivated.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at around 1.45pm.

The Metropolitan Police told Jewish News that it was investigating an allegation of theft: “It was reported that a man aged in his 30s was assaulted by a man who stole his phone.

“Officers attended but the suspect had left the area before they arrived.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing, however at this stage there is nothing to suggest the assault was racially or religiously motivated.”

Anyone who recognises the male in the footage is asked to contact police quoting reference number  CAD 3703 11/02/22.
