Celebrities’ online seder raises £2M for the needy

Celebrities in the United States have raised more than £2million for the coronavirus relief effort after taking part in an online seder to raise funds for those hit hardest by the effects of the pandemic. 

Among those raising money for the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention Foundation’s Coronavirus Emergency Response Fund were Seinfeld actor Jason Alexander, Blossom actor Mayim Bialik, comedienne Sarah Silverman and Henry Winkler, who played Fonzie in Happy Days. 

While the A-listers were going online, Hungarian Jewish actor and poet Géza Röhrig, who is best known for his lead role in the Oscar-winning 2015 film Son of Saul, volunteered as an ambulance assistant in New York. 

Röhrig revealed his efforts in a Facebook Live appearance on Monday, explaining he had worked in the ambulance service for six months in 2013.

He revealed that his former boss called him to ask him to help out, and he completed a six-hour course and take an  exam before re-entering the service.
He said he had helped wash the bodies of three coronavirus victims,  with all three given online funerals.
