Celtic director names and shames anti-Semitic abusers

Conservative peer and Scottish football club director Lord Livingstone has taken the fight to his anti-Semitic abusers – by naming and shaming them.

Celtic director Livingstone, the former chief executive of BT, was up for re-election took to a fans’ website to highlight what had been said about him, and by whom.

Responding to an online debate, he wrote: “I hope you don’t mind me posting this [but] as the person about whom a number of abusive comments were made, I thought you may be interested in a couple of the racist ones.”

He then pasted a selection of comments, including one calling him an “Ashkenazi c***” and another who wrote: “He’s a Jew, what do you expect?”

Livingstone, whose re-election was vigorously opposed at the recent Annual General Meeting, concluded by writing: “I have always believed Celtic fans are the best in the world and a few racist postings of social media will not change that as I know the overwhelming of fans whichever party the vote for would condemn them equally.”

His chairman, Ian Bankier, said some of the criticism was “criminally racist” but the Affiliation of Registered Celtic Supporters’ Clubs and The Green Brigade accused him of “an unforgivable slur on Celtic’s support”.
