Challah-lujah! Jewish News presents a plaited loaf fit for a King!
Live, laugh, loaf: Jewish News partners with London's biggest kosher bread maker to create a challah fit for a King and it's the only one you'll knead this Shabbat
Jewish News isn’t loafing around when it comes to the King’s coronation. The newspaper has teamed up with one of London’s biggest kosher bread makers, Bonjour Bakery, to make a challah – a platted bread traditionally eaten on the Jewish Sabbath – fit for a new King!
The bakeries are selling the limited-edition coronation challahs in plain, cinnamon and raisin favours, designed in the shape of a crown and topped with red, white and blue sprinkles, to give British Jews a real “head starter” on this weekend’s historic celebrations.
The project – in partnership with the United Synagogue and 1070 Kitchen – will see a limited edition of 120 sold this Friday. The number is a nod to the fact Jews traditionally wish friends and family ‘until 120’ on their birthdays.
Jewish News editor and amateur baker Richard Ferrer suggested: “Eat it fresh or make a royal toast!”
