Charedi man jailed for rape, kidnap and false imprisonment of ex-wife

A Charedi man has been jailed for 14 years for two counts of rape, and seven years for the kidnap and false imprisonment of his ex-wife. The sentences are to be served concurrently.

The unnamed man, said to be in his 60s, was sentenced by Judge Nigel Peters in Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday.

Jonathan Goldberg, the defendant’s barrister, said that his client acted out of passion after a heated argument about the custody of the couple’s two children.

PC Jamie Preston stated that the woman was “disorientated and distressed” after freeing herself from her ties and calling the police.

The woman was raped twice after being taken to a warehouse and being tied up in the “dungeon” like basement.

The unnamed woman since withdrew her claims for fear of being ostracised from her community. In a letter to the court, she wrote: “I do not wish to proceed with the matter further as it will lead to the break-up of my family. The real victims will be my children”.
