A chart-topping star appearing from nowhere to take to the stage at a batmitzvah? It sounds like the stuff of films – but for one youngster in Watford, a surreal, impromptu performance from an American rapper ensured a bash she’d never forget.

Lucy Morris’ batmitzvah at the Village Hotel in Elstree – which was organised by Genie Events – was in full swing when musician Fatman Scoop – famous for hip-hop standards such as ‘Put Your Hands Up’ – took to the stage to deliver a rendition of one of his hits.

Lucy’s dad, Simon, said the friendly New Yorker – real name Isaac Freeman – was more than happy to put on a private performance for the family’s guests.

“My two brothers Daniel and Jack spotted Scoop in the lobby and went and had a chat with him. He was extremely pleasant and really interested in what a batmitzvah was,” said Simon. “After explaining, next thing we knew he was marching into the main room and was on stage performing his signature song. He said he had to do it and just felt like the right place, right time”.

Scoop had been recuperating at the hotel in the aftermath of his stint in the Celebrity Big Brother House – but unfortunately for the loud-mouthed 35-year-old, he was given the boot by the public just 20 days in.
