Claudia Winkleman is BBC’s top-earning female star

Strictly Come Dancing host amongst a number of highly-paid Jewish presenters in the last year

Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman has been unveiled as the top-earning female star at the BBC.

The 45-year-old, who is also a Radio 2 presenter, earns between £450,000 and £499,000 a year, according to a list revealing the salaries of their highest-paid talents, published today.

Other Jewish stars on the list include broadcaster Vanessa Feltz (£350,000 – £399,999), BBC North America Editor Jonathan Sopel and presenter Alan Yentob (£200,000 – £249,999), and historian Simon Schama (£150,000 – £199,999). Nick Robinson, whose German-Jewish maternal grandparents fled the Nazis in the 1930s, earns £250,000 – £299,999.

Only one third on the list earning more than £150,000 are women. Details of stars’ pay was revealed in £50,000 bands.

The figures reflect salaries received from the licence fee, from the financial year April 2016 to April 2017.
