Clore Shalom lift primary schools football title

The latest Maccabi GB school sports tournament saw Clore Shalom come out on top of eight other sides to win the primary schools years 3 & 4 boys football tournament.

The event, at Mill Hill PowerLeague, welcomed nine schools, who brought 17 teams to play between them. In total, more than 170 young footballers were engaged in the event.

The tournament saw schools split into four groups and play each other in a league format with the top two teams in each group, qualifying for the Knock-Out stages. The group games brought plenty of exciting play, with the latter stages of the tournament producing some particularly good displays from the young footballers on show.

The semi-finals were a close encounter. Clore Shalom took on Kerem and, with Clore taking an early lead, it looked as if their dominant form would continue. However a fantastic bit of play from Kerem levelled the scores and the game went to extra time. Clore managed to get back on top of the tie and struck late on to secure a place in the Final. The other Semi-Final saw Independent take on HJPS. It was a close spectacle with both sides looking to create. Depsite some good play from Independent it was HJPS who were the more clinical in front of goal and took their chance to reach the Final.

The final was a very close game with both sides playing attacking football, hitting plenty of shots on each other’s goal. Clore Shalom struck first with a great piece of individual skill to set-up the goal. HJPS, however, kept playing their game and equalised with arguably the best move of the day. As the game neared full time, Clore Shalom worked another good opportunity and fine finish saw them retake the lead and hold on to win the game.

The afternoon concluded with the medals presentation and the trophy was awarded to the winning Clore Shalom team.

Maccabi GB’s School and Sports Coordinator, Alex Elf, spoke about the numbers engaged in the boy’s competition, “This tournament was called off a few weeks ago when we were interrupted with torrential rain, but the enthusiasm from the schools has seen us able to reschedule so quickly and allow 170 young players to participate today. It is great to see the enjoyment these young players get from these events, and already the schools are looking forward to our summer tournament schedule!”
