Communal leaders have welcomed a pledge by Sadiq Khan to extend the 210 bus route to link the Jewish communal hubs of Golders Green with Stamford Hill.

Khan made the surprise announcement at Thursday night’s eventful Jewish community mayoral election hustings at JW3,Sadiq Khan and Susan Hall clash at eventful Jewish community mayoral election hustings in partnership with Jewish News.

To loud cheers from the packed audience, the current mayor said:”I’m pleased to announce tonight that if I’m re-elected TFL will extend the 210 bus route, a single decker, from Finsbury Park, to Stamford Hill, to Golders Green.”

Over the past two decades the Strictly Orthodox community has grown significantly, in both Golders Green and Stamford Hill, but at the moment to travel between the two locations you have to take the 210 bus and get off at Finsbury Park.

Then, change to the 253 or 254 bus and head towards Stamford Hill.

Campaigners have raised concerns about antisemitic incidents at the existing interchanges at Finsbury Park and have pushed for the direct route, during 20 years of lobbying.

London Jewish Forum co-chair welcomed Khan’s announcement saying:”There has been massive growth of the Charedi communities in the two areas, and yet transport links are so bad that the community is reduced to using taxis and cars.

“After two decades of lobbying three mayors and so many meetings with politicians and TFL, at last it seems a single decker bus route is coming, if Sadiq is re-lected.

“From Federation to Adath, from Interlink to Shomrim the message is clear we need a direct bus route.

“With so much else happening, after October 7th, this is becoming the least TFL can do.”

Jewish News understands the commissioner of TFL is planning to visit Stamford Hill next month, with a new senior management team also involved.
