Kerem Seder Style

Pupils at Kerem School – from nursery to reception – got into the Pesach spirit as they held model seders. Singing English and Hebrew songs, they heard stories, acted out plays and sampled an array of Pesach food including the four cups of wine. And the afternoon was topped off by headteacher Miss Burns performing a Pesach magic trick as she made water turn into blood!

News in Brief:

• Book Giveaway 

Resource, the Jewish employment advice and support centre, has been chosen as an Institutional Giver by the organisers of World Book Night 2014. Finchley-based Resource will receive five sets of 18 books to give away to clients. Chief executive Victoria Sterman said: “We are proud and honoured to have been chosen to take part in this invaluable programme. The wide range of help we offer, at no cost to clients, enables them to get back into the workplace.

“That help is both direct, for example to create more effective CVs, improve interview techniques and provide networking opportunities and importantly, giving emotional support too, such as providing guidance on coping with unemployment.”

• The Leil Shishi Kumzits performed for an audience of over 1000

  Musical Kumzits

The Leil Shishi Kumzits delivered an evening of musical entertainment to more than 1,000 men at the Walthamstow Assembly Hall, attracting an attendance from a diverse spectrum of the Jewish community.

• A Special Shabbat

Muswell Hill United Synagogue welcomed around 20 members of the local Bravanese Muslim community for Shabbat morning services. At the conclusion of the services, Bravanese leader Mr Abubakar Ali gave a talk to around 150 members on the history of his community and the special relationship that has been built by Rabbi Mason with the Bravanese community since the arson attack on their cultural centre last June. Rabbi Mason said: “I was moved by the attendance of so many of our friends and thrilled by the warmth of our community towards them.”

• Weekend in Paris

Alyth Choral Society has returned from a weekend in Paris, which saw them perform a concert under the baton of their founder Vivienne Bellos. Singing a piece with Ensemble Copernic in the Rue Copernic synagogue, the first performance was the first in Paris, and received a rapturous ovation.They will next perform Handel’s Esther on 7 December.

• Shalom Victory

Clore Shalom won the Primary Schools Years 3 & 4 boys’ football tournament at the Maccabi GB school sports tournament.

• New Choir 

A new young Jewish adult choir group has been set up, for people in their 20s-early 40s. Rehearsals will be held at West London Synagogue, every Tuesday between 6.15-7.45pm. More details at: matnoar@yahoo.com
