Summer party fit for princesses

More than 1,500 people enjoyed a day out in the sunshine at The PAH Family Fun Day at Jewish Care’s Princess Alexandra home in Stanmore. Organised by the home’s special events committee, the event raised £20,000 which will help buy vital equipment to enable residents to enjoy meaningful and varied activities.

Triathletes help to raise funds

Four triathlete stars from Kol Chai, together with more than 20 cake-bakers and sellers raised around £700 for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC) when they took part in the Jetstream Triathlon at Merchant Taylors’ School. Led by Ruth Lewy, members of the Hatch End Reform Community also acted as race marshals. The LJMC’s Fiona Hussey said: “It was tremendous of so many Kol Chai members to give up their time and provide such great support.”

Tee-mendous golfing day

A sell-out group of 90 keen golfers met bright and early at Hartsbourne Country Club in Bushey Heath for a morning of friendly competition as they took part in the 10th Asher Teper Memorial Golf Day (ATMGD). Organised by the Hebrew Order of David Charitable Trust (HOD), the morning raised nearly £25,000 towards HOD Charitable Trust, MANNA Meir Panim, Jewish Child’s Day and Cure Cancer UCL.

Event organiser Jeff Maze said: “The ATMGD, thanks to Medivet’s continuous sponsorship, is now regarded as one of the premier golf days on the Charity Golf Day circuit.  The event was played in the correct spirit, but the real winners were the respective charities whose combined efforts with the ATMGD committee contributed to a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable day.”

Norwood’s grand day out

Norwood got into the festival spirit last Friday, celebrating Learning Disability Week (15-21 June) at Redbridge Council’s annual event in Wansted. The fair was held in the grounds of Eton Manor Rugby Club, with live music, stalls, arts and crafts, a photo booth and vintage-themed café. Norwood staff members and people supported by the charity manned a stall showcasing its services for adults and enjoyed the  live music and sun. Diane Hockley, who  lives in Norwood supported living accommodation, said: “It was nice weather and I enjoyed it.  There were lots of people there.”

Rimon raises £44k over dinner

Rimon Jewish Primary School held an inaugural fundraising dinner to celebrate their many successes over the years. Held at Golders Green Synagogue, the evening raised £44,000 for the school and will enable Rimon to fund all of its named fundraising objectives.

Rabbi Dr Harvey Belovski, Rimon’s principal and the Golders Green Synagogue Rav said: “We’re delighted that Rimon’s inaugural fundraising dinner was such a success and look forward to celebrating many great milestones together.”

The Central Synagogue opened its doors to 250 people for a concert presented in conjunction with University Jewish Chaplaincy in memory of Billy Sharron. The Three Cantors, Steven Leas, Avromi Freilich and Robert Brody sung alongside the Lumos Quartet.
